All,
I guess I shouldn't have used the word "only", no offense was meant. And I
wasn't being very accurate, my primary use for Spindle is to do a save and
rebuild and check for any errors. It scans my entire project, which includes
147 .jwc files and 15 .page files. If anything is wrong anywhere it flags the
errors. I also use it as I edit .html/.jwc files and my .application file, to
make sure that they are internally consistent. I don't want to find these
errors at run-time! Occasionally, I use the eclipse->New->Create Component, to
create new components, however, that is really only using the pre-defined
templates. And I find it handy to use the auto-complete to figure out what
parameters are available, however this can be done by reading the web-page.

I have no desire to try and use Tapestry without Spindle! As the "GUI Lead", I
have kept my entire development team on 3.03 waiting for Spindle. Other
projects here, have moved on to Tapestry 4.

However, all of the new stuff is 4.x. Howard is already talking 5.0. And I
have to decide when do we convert. Someone (NOT Geoff) said something about
Q3, I was waiting for Geoff to respond back with "oh no, sooner than that".
However, I haven't heard anything to the contrary and I have to decide when to
move on to T4.

In my previous e-mail, I was trying to tell Fanz that he could develop Tapestry
4.0 without Spindle, but I wouldn't want to do so.

Hope that explains my position better.

regards,

Mark

Now I *know* I have to pick up the pace on Spindle for Tapestry 4!

while I would agree that "Spindle makes life easier, but is not required."

I wonder, if the statement "Spindle is only used for editing" was made
because Spindle does not yet support Tapestry 4?

Editing is an afterthought in Spindle. Editing is the eye candy.
Hardly the selling point of the tool.

Any old Tapestry 3 users agree/disagree?

Geoff
