I think my colleague James Howison requested the ability to launch an
external text editor for beanshells sometime last year, so please add
a +2 for the request for an improved beanshell text editor. I like the
idea of being able to launch an alternate external text editor because
most users are likely to have a program suited to their specific
tastes and needs. Sadly, my coding skills are such that I can't
contribute the code to do it, but I can share my usual work-arounds.
I have generally found that when I accidentally deleted beanshell code
(I work in 1.7 as well) then I just close the workflow without saving;
when I re-open it, the code is back where it ought to be. Of course, I
also lose any other changes between the last prior save and my
accidental code deletion... Another way that I've recovered
accidentally deleted beanshell code is from the process report detail
of a prior run of the workflow I'm developing. It's not perfect, but
has saved my skin a few times.
This kind of accidental deletion in beanshells happens quite a lot for
me because the keyboard shortcuts that can be used with beanshells in
1.7 are for Windows. Accidentally applying the keyboard shortcuts that
work just fine everywhere else on my Mac (including in the Rshell
editor) therefore overwrites any selected text in the beanshell editor
and makes me very sad.

Could it also include/extend the undo functionality to the
processor. I
just deleted half my beanshell code by accident. I can't even close it
as it wil save the current code.
BTW, this is in T1.7. I don't know if the undo works in T2 for
beamshells
