That's a good point.. so if you are in the result view and click the
'Run' button, it would currently run the workflow that is open in the
'Design' perspective - which might and might not be the same one as
the workflow behind the result you are viewing now.

I can't tell you how many times I have done this. I would actually rather have hitting that button bring to the front all open Run dialogs so I could choose among them. If I want to run something that does not already has an open dialog, I usually select Run from the File menu because of something with the interface which makes it so that's the only way to do it once there are open results (sorry to be vague, I can't quite recall the specifics offhand).

Is it a good enough hint that you see the workflow diagram in the Run
dialogue? (If so, then I guess it would still be confusing if the
open workflow does not require inputs, in which case the dialogue does
not appear)

No, the little workflow diagram is not enough, though it does help and I wouldn't get rid of it. It's quite easy to imagine having two workflows open/running that have the same overall appearance but different function. Having the workflow filename as a title on the dialog box might help, but that's all I've been able to think up.

.. or would you expect it to run the workflow that you are looking at
the results at? Note that this could be a workflow from a week ago,
and so it might be a workflow you don't have open, or possibly in an
older version.

Yep, I do this a lot, no matter how logical it may seem that the workflow open in the design view is the one that will run. Sometimes as I look through results, I forget which workflow was "on top" in the design view. The problem here is that I usually have multiple workflows open at a time, and I cannot remember which one would be the "active" design view to trigger with a Run button. Therefore I almost always use the dialogs or the File menu once I have made a first workflow run.

It also would be nice, if the 'load previous value' button would
remember the last location of a previous value file and not go back to
the home directory each time. (One of my little irritations.)

I tracked this as http://www.mygrid.org.uk/dev/issues/browse/T2-1242 -
we might try to fit it in if we do these other changes to the run
dialogue for 2.2.0

That would be a great little improvement. In general, having the last file selection location remembered is a very nice detail.

Cheers,

Andrea
