Yeah, you took the words right out of my mouth. :-)

For the filter, enable regular expressions in the options and make the
search string:

^\s*Re:?\s+

This will make the filter match messages only with the subject
starting with 'Re', maybe followed by a :, and then followed by a
space.If you simply put 'Re' as the string, it will make unwanted
matches.

Not all e-mail clients use Re for replies and we may have to make
changes for these clients if you come upon their output.
