Perhaps we should analyze the problem with a packet sniffer that looks
at the data packets that are exchanged between our Bat!s and the remote
mail server.  This might tell us exactly how the first "conversation"
of each session between our Bat!s and the remote mail server differs
from subsequent conversations.

I assume that it would be easy to record the conversations on a Linux
box if one ran TB! on a Windows machine that is connected to the
Internet through the Linux box.  However, I cannot set this up because
I have only a single computer to work with at this time.  Perhaps there
is a way to do it on a single Windows machine?

Unlike Gary and Roel I do not get prompted for a password on the 2nd,
3rd, 4th, ... connection attempts.
