I know what you mean.

It's this limitation that has made me put aside ideas as yours for the
time being. :)

However, I do this sort of thing on incoming mail since the source is
the one. I have a filter here that colours my own discussion list
messages and another that colours list messages that are direct
replies to my posts. I can ignore the colour of my own messages and
immediately see the replies to my messages. If I'm sitting at the
machine, I also will hear the filter for replies to my messages give
off a sound. I can therefore hear direct replies to my messages coming
in.

The filtering system will be revamped in the next version. That I know
for sure. I can't be sure that we'll be able to create filters that
will work across folders and/or accounts.
