1. Shut down PC
2. Unplug PC
3. Plug in UPS
4. Plug in PC to UPS
5. Switch on UPS
6. Switch on PC

As I mentioned in another post, they sometimes come with small cables
to plug into your PC to allow auto-save/shutdown as well... that'd
just slip in between steps 4, and 5... and would require a small
software install... but nothing complicated.  Normally the "quick
start" guides cover everything :)
