What do have "layered" between ZoneAlarm and The_Bat!? If you are running an Antivirus program that either intercepts port 110 or a plugin for The_Bat! and/or have an antispam program running then you can expect such delays. From a mail-monitoring firewall to an antispam plugin, or program, through an AV monitoring port 110 incoming I would, myself, expect quite a delay in The_Bat! processing mail. Further any The_Bat! incoming filters you have set will slow the process down that much more.
