Greetings to both Michael Richardson and the tcpdump-workers mailing
list members.

I have a question about building the binaries for SPARC (Solaris 2.6)
and Intel (Solaris 2.5.1) workstations. Both Solaris releases are SVR4.x.
Consequently, the /opt filesystem is the preferred place for packages and
the directory /usr/local is the preferred place for local commands (BSD
flavours only offer /usr/local).

Now I build libpcap 0.5.2 and tcpdump 3.5.2 to be installed in /opt/sfw
(as happens with all the stuff in the Software Companion CD in Solaris 8).
Is it a right place or should be better to install it in /usr/local?

Other important matter is software distribution. I made two *.tar.Z files.
Perhaps to build a package should be better. In that case, I will need
help about the information I must provide in the pkginfo files.

At last, I can put those tar files in my personal home page or provide
copies to tcpdump.org. What is the best alternative?

Thanks to all for continuing supporting that software,

Igor.
