If they're for Solaris, building them to go under "/opt" is probably the
thing to do (although he might want to check out what
www.sunfreeware.com does - they appear to have libpcap-2000.11.28 and
tcpdump-2000.11.28 for Solaris 8/SPARC, 0.4/3.4 for Solaris 7/SPARC,
nothing for Solaris 2.5 or 2.6/SPARC, and nothing for Solaris/Intel of
any release).

If he's building them for HP-UX, he might want to look at where the
HP-UX Porting and Archive Centre:

        http://hpux.cict.fr/

in France and

        http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/

(or the Wisconsin site, but that's down) and

        http://hpux.ee.ualberta.ca/

in Canada and

        http://hpux.u-aizu.ac.jp/

in Japan and

        http://hpux.petech.ac.za/

in South Africa (see the site for other European mirrors) packages them.

(BTW, we might want to notify them that libpcap 0.6 and tcpdump 3.6 are
out; we might also want to remind them that the author is now "The
TCPDUMP Group" at [EMAIL PROTECTED], with the home page at
http://www.tcpdump.org/ - they still list LBL and its FTP site, even for
libpcap 0.5.2, and probably for tcpdump 3.5.2 as well.

Given the fixes to the HP-UX code in "pcap-dlpi.c", they'd probably want
to pick 0.6/3.6 up....)

I don't know where stuff normally gets installed on Irix, so I don't
know the right place to put it. Is there some standard place for
getting Irix third-party binaries?
