This would also seem to be a classic case of going through the motions with no actual substance. Someone with some legal knowledge probably told them to put that email retention policy on the website but there was never followed up with the resources to back it up

The lesson is that we should not claim that we are preserving data if we are not doing so. Another guess is that there is more going on here that meets the eye - or the newspaper - or the Internet.
