Go to this sight: http://www.moyerelectronics.com/ . Scroll down to free software. There's a resistor color code calculator that works with all color bands. It's convenient & simple to use.

Yes, it is very confusing to me.
I was just looking at a chart, and resistors can be
marked with 3 to 6 bands.
If there are 4 bands, the first 3 determine the
resistance, and the4th band determines tolerence.
Now is where I get lost.
If there are 5 bands the first 4 determine
resistance, and the 5th determines tolerance.
6 bands is just an extension of that with 5 being
tolerence, and 6 being temperature coefficient.
I'm just not sure what to do with 4 bands for
resistance.
I'm guessing that the 4th band(on a 5 or 6 banded
resister) is the multiplyer, so that it can be very
precision, and/or odd value.
Anyone wish to speak to this?

One question. When we look at a resistor, how are
we supposed to know if
it is a 4 band resistor with the 5th band meaning
nothing, or if it is a
5 band resistor with the 5th band being
important? Doesn't seem to make
too much sense.

Hope the 2% does it for you.
