Take off 2 weeks of work to attend the event. ( forfeiting hundreds of dollars of earned income ) 2. "Work" at the Howdy Party, instead of just relaxing at it. 3. Spend approximately $ 900 at the event to purchasing cave gear, books, t-shirts, etc. 4. Donate $ 100 to some of the various cave preserves. 5. Go caving - something I haven't done, but once in the last 2 years. 6. Spend about $ 1,000 during the 2 week trip, for food, gas, lodging, and entertainment, as it will be my only vacation in 2009. 7. To pre-register and pay the cost of that ( hopefully under $ 200 ??? ) In summary, I have 13 months to find about $ 2,500 and put it away some where where I won't spend it. Otherwise, I will have to cut back on some of the above. That is all I can think of, off the top of my head.
