BEING  ACOMPILATION THERE MAY  BE ERRORS

Q1            If a train arrives at the station at23:55 and its departure is at
00:05, in this case reservation for which dayshould be done?

A1            Subramaniam Duraisamy IT Analyst21h

In this case, thereservation should be for the date on which the train
departsfrom the station. Saythe train arrives at Monday 11.55 pm and leaves at
Tuesday 12.05 AM. So yourdate of reservation should be Tuesday.

I have worked on afew scheduling algorithms in some of my earlier projects in
TCS , so I can tellhow this works.

Indianrailways scheduling algorithm does not keep track of the arrival time and
dateof the train. It only keeps track of the departure date and time.

Why is this so?.Because for Indian Railways the new day begins at 12 AM. And
any ticketsscheduled after 12 AM would mean the date of journey gets
incremented by oneextra day.

When a passengerbooks a ticket he selects the date of departure which is kind
of logical. Youwould not be concerned at what time the train arrives at the
station. You wouldonly want to know when it leaves. If it leaves at 12.05 AM on
Tuesday, thenyou would want to enter Tuesday as the date of reservation.

Q2            Is a rat a type of mouse orsomething else entirely?

A2            Claire Jordan Degree in biology andfolklore; programmer, shop
owner, secretary on newspaper Tue

True ratsand mice are rodents in the group Murinae, of which there are at least
519species. This is a housemouse, Mus musculus, the ur-Murine.

We also tend to usethe name for animals in the wider group Muridae, which
includes all the Murinaeplus gerbils and many other species, and is the largest
family of mammals. Thesuper-family Muroidea also includes voles, hamsters,
lemmings and the world’s favourite “rat”,Cricetomys gambianus or the Gambian
pouched rat, famous for its work in mineclearance. They got their name because
they have cheek pouches like a hamster’swhich they stuff with food.

Whether we call an animal a rat or a mouse is size-basedand rather arbitrary.
This little chap

is Mastomysnatalensis, He’s a Murid rodent but not a Murine, and depending on
who you askhe’s either a Natal multimammate mouse or a Natal multimammate rat,
becausehe’s about on the cusp between what we consider mice and what we
consider rats,size-wise.

We also tend to usethe terms rat and mouse for animals which *look* like
Murines, even though theyaren’t even Muroids. This chap, for example,

Cuscomys oblativus,is known as the Macchu Pichu arboreal chinchilla rat. It’s a
rodent, OK, but asbig as a house-cat and much more closely related to a guinea
pig than to aMurine rat.

This one the CommonDunnart (Sminthopsis murina), is a Dasyurid and is also
known as a “marsupialmouse”, despite being as far from true Murines as any
mammal can be withoutactually laying eggs. You can see it was even given the
species name murina, because of its resemblance to a Murine rodent.

Q3            How long should you care for elderlyparents when you have
siblings who don't?

A3            Ramadevi Gidugu Bachelor of commercefrom Andhra University
College of Science and TechnologyTue

Why you want tocompare yourself with those selfish siblings? Rotten eggs??

Parentssingle handedly bring up all the children. All the children together
can't takecare of their parents in old age?

Forget about them.Your parents have given birth to you also. They have given
their hundredpercent to rear you. Try to give back 25 percent atleast. Just do
your duty. Taketheir responsibility.

Compare yourself with good people not with selfishpeople. How long? As long as
you and they are alive.

If you have anyproblems financially, physically talk to your siblings. Tellyour
parents to file a case for maintenance on those selfish children. They can't
escape that duty atleast.

There is nothingmore painful to the parents than the thought that they have
become burden totheir children.

Theytry to give their best to children when they are young according to their
capacity.Best food, best facilities, best education, etc.

They don't need any best in this old-age. Just properrest and peace of mind
with timely simple food.

Don't come withextreme examples of how some parents are bad blah blah. There
are bad people inparents and children. Let us talk about good humans .Let us
provewe are better than animals.

Q4            What 2 major appliances do mostkitchens have?

A4            Gopala Krishnan Former AssistantGeneral Manager 1996-2004 at
Department of Telecom (1966–2004) Jun 11

In India withvegetarians the two major electric appliances are mixer and wet
grinder if youintended electrical appliances.

My note- I have not added fridge because it ispreferable to have it in dining
area or hall.

Q5            Which is the most luxurious railway stationin India?

A5            Sandip Gaikwad Zonal Service Managerat Cpc Diagnostics
(2012–present)Jun 7

In my view-Rani Kamlapati (Habibganj Junction ) is one of the best, cleanest
and luxuriousrailway station. Not only Name but the station is changed
completely. Though I have not takenmany images. Every platform is having
escalator. The Lounge is superb you canfeel like a Airport Lounge. It’s a
complete privately managed RailwayStation. Therestaurants are private and you
will get good quality food.

My note- Bangalore is a well maintained  and best facilitiesprovided  station
by railways in myopinion.

Q6            Why do people not accept Rs. 10coins as a mode of payment around
Ooty, Tamil Nadu?

A6            Siva Kumar Bachoti Former SoftwareQuality Assurance ManagerMay 28

10 rupee coins arevalid, there is no doubt about it. For the last 5 years or
so, a rumour iscurrent in many parts of the country that the coins are not
legal tender. This rumour is still there despite the RBI clarifying many times.

The thing is,everyone agrees that it is a valid tender and yet no one will
accept it. Theysay, “I used to take it and here is the tin full of the coins.
Nobody is takingit from me, so, I too am not.” One shopkeeper told me even the
banks are nottaking it. I don’t know the truth of it.

My note- InChennai the problem was there before two years or so, now it is not
there  probably due to  scarcity ofcurrency. If we ask for currency rarely some
banks give, 70% or more are verysoiled. Banks like HDFC give fresh minted
coins, but only as bags of Rs 1000-00

Q7            What does a 60 year old really looklike?

A7            Gopalkrishna Vishwanath While others"know" about ageing, I have
experienced it. Still am. Jun 13

I am 73 now butthis is how I used to look at the age of 60.

This picture wastaken at Chittur, Thekkegraamam in Palakkad District of Kerala
state, the placewhere we originally hail from. Starting from my grandfather and
going back intime, all the ancestors I can track, took birth, lived, and died
in this place.

My father migratedto Mumbai in the mid-nineteen forties in search of a career
and we lost ourlinks to this place in Kerala, after my grandfather died in
1980and the ancestral house was sold.

I visited thisplace about 13 years ago and met the new owners who have
renovated the house.

They gladlywelcomed us when we introduced ourselves and showed us around the
renovated andmodernized house.

Q8            As a woman, what are some"girly" things you don't do?

A8            Bhuvana Rameshwar married for threedecades Updated Wed

I am very independent compared to other women of mytimes. I can carry a
gascylinder and connect it to the stove myself. I can repair the plugs
ofelectrical things myself.

I have oftenunclogged drain pipes in the kitchen and washroom myself.

I varnish all mywooden things myself annually. Even the big wooden carved room
divider.

I stitch myclothes. No running to the tailor for stitching new ones or for
altering. Iwear perfectly fitting clothes.

I do not wearcustom - made embroidered blouses. No wasting an extra Rs 2000 on
a blouse forsilk sarees.

Never been to aparlour, even for my wedding day.

Stayed often aloneat home, didn't ask for neighbour's grandmother for company
and security.

Faced robbers aloneonce in Ooty. They were trying to rob the stereo set from
our Suzuki car.

Once when strandeddue to train cancellation I checked in to a hotel at 10.30 pm
in Coonoor withmy little son as husband was not reachable by phone. (Ooty heavy
rains).

I select my sarisand dresses in 5 min if needed, even in a big shop. I do not
adorn my plaitswith lots of jasmine. Only a little if wearing sari. Too much of
jasmine isheavy and has a strong smell.

I do not wear goldor any other bangles or rings at home.

I do not have amaid. I had two only when in laws and later dil stayed with us.
Now I'm back toindependent maid free life.

Q9            How can you tell if you are B12deficient?

A9            Lucia Garcia Worked at Hospitals Jun12

Vitamin B12 belongs to the B group of vitamins. Bvitamins are very important to
the body, especially vitamin B12.

The main physiological functions of vitamin B12 areto prevent pernicious
anemia, participate in the production of bone marrow redblood cells and
maintain the health of the nervous system.

The body needs verylittle vitamin B12, and the recommended daily amount of
vitamin B-12 for adultsis about 2.4 micrograms.

Once the human body lacks B12 vitamin, it may cause manyclinical symptoms, such
as anemia, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, weakness, fatigue, heart palpitations,
shortness of breath, paleskin, nerve damage, mood disturbances and so on.

Vitamin B12 is generally stored in the liver for a longtime, and the total is
only about 2 mg to 3 mg.

If notsupplemented with new vitamin B12, the stored vitamin B12 can still meet
thebody requirements for 3 to 5 years.

As long as you eata balanced diet, you will not be deficient in vitamin B12. In
general, dairy products, eggs, fish, meat, poultry and animal offal, etc.,
arerich in vitamin B12.

Q10         Is there a train service between Canadaand the USA?

A10          Steven Haddock 3rd generation (or so)Canadian & lifelong resident;
political science major Tue

Yes. There is daily service between Toronto andNew York City (via Buffalo,
Rochester and Albany) and between Montreal and NewYork City. Both trains are
very popular and are usually sold out. It’s slightlycheaper than flying, and
slightly faster than taking the bus.

Q11         Why is airport food so expensive?

A11          Martin Bayer Chef (1994–present)Wed

Airportfood is expensive because they know they’ve got a captive audience.

Most layoversaren’t long enough for people to hail a cab, get to a restaurant,
eat, cab rideback, fight their way back to their gate and catch their flight.
Therestaurants at the airport know this, so they chargeexorbitant amounts of
money for their food. I mean, why not?

If racing to arestaurant was possible for all travellers, the restaurants
around the airportwould raise their prices as well, because they would capture
all of thosesales. Why wouldn’t they?

I’m sure airportrents are pretty crazy as well and they’ve got to cover those
costs.Airport labour ain’t cheap either. I know a lady who works at the airport
doingmenial work and she makes $25 an hour.

My note- Still the charges are more, for the quality andquantity offered.
Present days passengers are mostlymiddle class  or even low class
ininternational airport.  A Fanta bottle ischarged above Rs 100-00 which really
cost Rs 40-00.
