It is very simple: 1. These passages must be in different scraps (let's call them above-scrap and below-scrap). Now you need to put these scraps in two different levels. If they exist within one map (this is probably your case), use break command to separate map levels: map two-passages above-scrap break below-scrap endmap In other case (if each of them is in the different map), it should work automatically. 2. In your layout, transparency must be enabled, using "transparency on" switch (or "-layout-transparency on" option directly in export command.) But this is defalut - so you probably do not need to modify this. You may also need to redefine opacity to some other value, especially if you want to print or you are using LCD screen. 3. You need a PDF browser, that supports transparencies (e.g. Acrobat 5.0 or newest version of Ghostscript) Hope it helps, S.
