The 7xx series took 17mm drives, although I vaguely recall a "slim" model somewhere in the line that was limited to a 12.5mm drive.
The 600 and other machines of that vintage took 12.5mm drives. All current ThinkPads that I'm aware of take 9.5mm drives. I just checked the T400, T500, W500, and W700 in the tabook. (There may be a bit of ambiguity in the tabook - it says the *drive* is 9.5mm high. Can anyone confirm the height of the drive bay in the W700?) What current notebook/laptop takes a 12.5mm drive? Maybe some kind of Alienware monster? Every manufacturer wants to offer slim machines these days. -Mike > From: Repair Clinic > > Probably the size of the drive... that is the standard size > of the current Seagate and Fujitsu. > > If you have an old 760 or 765 Thinkpad lying around (and > others) you can see what the new WD 1 TB size looks like... > as they were 11.5, or just shy of that. > ... > > > These new 1 TB Western Digital Drives fit many current > > laptops just fine, and new laptops will be configured to > > handle them.
