Of course, a cable cannot transmit a "1" or a "0". All signals that are
transmitted from one place to another must be real signals and not
imaginary ideals.
I can imagine scenarios where a partially damaged cable will experience
reduced performance when the pattern of data hits certain resonant
frequencies of portions of that cable.
The real world always interferes.
