You did the clone the wrong way around.

If you use a USB enclosure, put the *original* drive in the enclosure and
the new drive in the ThinkPad. Then clone from the USB drive to the internal
drive.

That way you avoid the drive geometry issues the others have mentioned.

I put a 640GB drive in my new W510, and I cloned the original drive using
the method above (new drive in the ThinkPad). I used ShadowProtect Desktop,
but Acronis should work as well.
