That is correct - it's not a bug, it's a feature! :)

The audio port is not a "headphone" port as on the laptop, but "line out," and
it behaves differently as you've discovered:

1) The built-in speakers aren't muted when you connect a cable to line out.
(This perhaps makes sense, since items connected to the back of the mini-dock
will likely remain connected all the time, even when you don't wish for the
speakers to be disabled.)
2) The volume control accessible via the volume hotkeys does not affect the
line out volume. You can affect the line out volume in Windows via the Volume
icon/panel. (However, the mute hotkey DOES mute the line out sound.)

I was surprised as well, and it took me a bit of getting used to, but in the
end it's fine for me. I activated the Volume tray icon and I use that when
using external speakers. When using my line out audio device, I use the volume
down hotkey to bring the internal speaker volume all the way down, since I
don't usually want to hear sound from there and my audio device at the same
time. I use the tray icon to adjust the device volume. I use the mute key to
mute everything. And I use the volume up hotkey to restore built-in speaker
volume when I want that again.

(Note also that the PR II provides not a mic-in jack as on the laptop, but a
line-in jack...which is great to have!)
