Right. Sometimes they are useful--basically "going back-and-forth". 
But I think the real use cases are quite limited.

IMO, the whole field of "strategies of linkage" is generally conceptually 
messy and rarely explained in an enlightening way.

Just because you can do it isn't any reason FOR doing it.
