So this line in the documentation is incorrect:

[!is[system]$subfilter$has[modified]!sort[modified]limit[$limit$]eachday[
modified]]

and should read instead

[!is[system]$subfilter$has[$dateField$]!sort[$dateField$]limit[$limit$]
eachday[$dateField$]]
