I totally agree with you on that. Figuring out end objectives of users is key. 
You could say we are victims of TW5's success as a diy application. 

But there are still a lot of application capabilities that remain unexploited 
by end users because they find it hard to implement them for themselves (not 
all of us can make plugins). This is where online services can be of great help 
if they can successfully supply just in time solutions for our needs. However, 
one should keep in mind that not all needs may be profitable as you pointed out 
with respect to hosting.
