Brilliant! - I did not know about the adapter boards that looks like an excellent solution. I like the idea of substituting an uBlock for its receiver.

Thanks also for the additional info, I had managed to find some of that at least :)

After sorting out the 422 to 232 conversion and attaching it to the house GPS antenna, mine has been able to achieve lock after about 10 minutes and establish correct time and date from its initial time in 2007.

Its been well used with 33,604 hrs on the clock but everything seems to be OK. LH is keeping an eye on it now.

Its a fortuitous arrival since my house standard, an old Thunderbolt, has let the smoke out and I cant find the spare Thunderbolt anywhere!
