Excellent question I think this is a good case of bringing in Allport and Ross' classic work on intrinsic and extrinsic religiousness. I would suspect the extrinsics are certainly more likely to use religion as a crutch. Further, subsequent research in the 40 years since Allport and Ross' seminal work suggests that extrinsics are less common in religious communities than intrinsics. I can dig up some studies Here's one I found that looks at religiousness and locus of control http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:v4KBQE9AfHIJ:www.fuller.edu/sop/integration/Publications/bjorckfc.pdf+intrinsic+extrinsic+religiousness&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=24 Jim G --- To make changes to your subscription go to: http://acsun.frostburg.edu/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=tips&text_mode=0&lang=english
