I recently used the halfback method with the students in my Experimental
Methods class on their first exam.  They received half the credit back on
their exams by not only telling me what the correct answer was but why it
was the correct answer and why it is an important concept.  The students
really appreciated the opportunity and learned something at the same time.
I did, of course, tell them that they would not receive the same opportunity
on the next exam.
