Hi Jim- In forty some years of academic life I've never seen a hiring/tenure decision made on the basis of political viewpoint. In fact, I'm sure that I couldn't acurately predict the political viewpoint of the majority of the people I've worked with. A lot of personality factors affect hiring/tenure decisions (perhaps too many) but politics would be very low on a list of predictors. -Don.
