Once upon a time m_jessing shaped the electrons to say... > UPS systems have battery back-up systems used to safely shut down > computers. True they typically have power suppression but they are not > used in electronic set-ups since the batter back-up capacity is not > necessary.
Necessary is a judgment call. If you have power tha flickers or have brownouts, it can damage electronics without any surge. And it can cause devices like TiVo to reboot, messing up recordings, interrupting viewing, etc. A UPS helps them ride those events out without disruption. Most of the wear on mechanical devices like hard drives and fans comes during spin up and spin down, so reducing the number of power cycles can also prolong product life. -MZ -- megazone-at-megazone.org http://www.MegaZone.org/ Gweep, Geek, Human, me. http://www.GizmoLovers.com/ http://www.Eyrie-Productions.com/ -><- Hail Eris "A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men" 508-852-2171
