I'm not questioning its reliability, just that requiring access to a
POP/IMAP server simply to send mail is inflexible, as Jessica's
situation illustrates.
An RFC standard method for authenticating SMTP users is already
available. If the ISP had adhered to the standard, I could have
solved her problem with 5 minutes of coding.
