Unless I'm confused, Mark was replying to me, which makes two users interested in essentially the same thing :-) The "reasons" Mark gave were one: being out of "paradigm" (which is valid, but only a single reason; your "bang for the buck" argument is more convincing). He also asked about the % of repeat offenders, as do you. For me it is right about 10%. (About 10% of the spam I get is from a small collection of spammers. About every 3-4 weeks another spammer joins this group.)I personally think this is a waste of time for the reasons Mark described though. If you are interested in blacklisting, you might combine TMDA with one of the more reputable RBL services instead (to let them to the blacklisting work for you).
This isn't that big a deal (for me). It would just cut down on the amount of confirmation requests going out and kept in the pending queue (by about 10%) and might reduce the amount of spam sent to me by a smaller amount. And I agree that it wouldn't be hard to implement myself. I also agree that some of the finer details might differ between users (but this already seems to be the case with other TMDA features).
I am not interested in RBL.
Keep up the good work! Please don't take this message the wrong way!
Best wishes,
Jeff
