Both are equally penalizing :)  After a lot of thought on the subject
(and monitoring lots of discussion on this forum), I no longer use the
C/R functionality of TMDA.  But I guess that's a discussion for
another day...

Instead of confirming, why not use the hold option?  That way, you can
always be assured of having 100% control over the incoming mail.
