David-- I wasn't comfortable with the security issues involving the CGI interface and the need to weaken the permissions/ownership on some files for proper functionality.
Also, the idea of having to open a web browser to manage my e-mail is lost on me. I find it more natural to manage my e-mail while reading my e-mail, especially in situations where I read my e-mail remotely over an SSH connection. > What advantage, (or to be totally open about it -- what > disadvantage) does using your interface have when compared to simply > using the tmda-cgi interface? No web browser or web server required, no extraneous mouse movements, no CGI security concerns, functionality across limited-bandwidth connections. tmda-ezplm isn't intended as a replacement for tmda-cgi. It's intended as a streamlined, more secure alternative. Basically, it's something I wrote to scratch an itch I had, and decided to share with the TMDA community. --Brian On Thu, Oct 21, 2004 at 07:48:27AM -0700, David Hoffman wrote: > Brian, > > What advantage, (or to be totally open about it -- what > disadvantage) does using your interface have when compared to simply > using the tmda-cgi interface? > > When it comes to managing the pending queue, tmda-cgi gives the user a > GUI interface so they can look at the messages, and simply click a > button to do the same thing your interface does. > > I'm just curious if there is something I am missing that would seem to > make it a better solution than the web GUI. > > David > > > --- Brian <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > Monique-- > > > > Thanks for your honesty. > > > > It allows management of tmda-pending via an e-mail interface. > > Pending > > mails are listed, and by changing the symbol that prefixes each mail > > you can whitelist, blacklist, delete, or release.
