** [tickets:#137] ^N gives weird output**

**Status:** open

I discovered that if ^N (the key combination Control + n) appears in a tmux
session, the terminal output becomes all weird. I asked a question about it on
Stackoverflow (
http://superuser.com/questions/771999/tmux-shows-weirdly-encoded-history-on-osx?noredirect=1#comment1004635_771999
 ) because whenever I used the "history" command, I would get weird output.
Turned out that this was because I had ^N in my history. After discovering
this, I verified that I could force the weird output by simply pressing Control
+ n followed by enter.

Here is an example:

~~~~~~
Srens-MacBook-Pro-3:~ Soeren$ ^N
-bash: : c⎺└└▒┼d ┼⎺├ °⎺┤┼d
S⎼e┼⎽↑M▒cB⎺⎺┐↑P⎼⎺↑3:· S⎺e⎼e┼$
~~~~~~

I have no idea whether this is a bug or intended behaviour, but I thought I
should I should report it here :)

polym confirmed the behaviour in his shell - I have no idea what his
environment is like.

I'm on a MacBook Pro in OSX Lion 10.7.5.

I'm using the Terminal app which has (among others) UTF-8 encoding enabled and
UFT-8 under "International - Character Encoding:".

My shell is bash.

My tmux as per tmux -V is tmux 1.9a.
