No problem, glad to help. I wouldn't overestimate the complexity of the patch to the clustering code: the CharSequence interface isn't earth-shattering, it's methods are few, simple, and previously available. I bet a code change to compile and run under JDK 1.3 wouldn't be that hard. That said, I haven't looked at the code, so I can't tell for sure. I also don't know what your timeline is, i.e. if you can wait for a patch and a new release. Alternatively, I don't know (based on your organization) if you or your client would be willing to run with a patched, unofficial version of tomcat. So yeah, the bottom line might be that even though this is not a complicated patch, you have to move to JDK 1.4.
