You still have to do some work to actually have to 2 talking to eachother eg install mod_webapp, or ajp module for apache, update the config files for apache). It just states that tomcat is ready and waiting for apache (which is I presume the default in the installation of tomcat). There is some documentation regarding this in the installation and is well discussed here on the mailinglists.
