Well, I for one *am* using "parents" and think it's useful. It quickly shows the parent revision(s) of the _working_directory_. See 'hg parents' on the command line. (I'm even thinking about showing them permanently, no matter which revision is selected. See the commit dialog in thg default tip for a possible layout).
