After uninstalling TortoiseHg and rebooting (and verifying that the 
TortoiseHg directory was empty), I *still* have the overlay icons.

In fact, if I create a new file on the desktop, it gets a red 
exclamation point on it. The TortoiseHg context menus are not around though.
