I keep mine right next to my bed. Just within arms reach when I'm on my laptop, or reading a book. (or, you know, falling asleep, which i do sometimes as well)...
Personally, If I had enough money, I'd install one of these things in the wall next to every light switch in my house. That'd just be nice. Then I'd run optical cables.
