I ran a "factory reset" and everything is now working perfectly again. Took me around 5 mins to change the settings to how I want, but that's not that hard. It re-scanned my music collection in under 10mins, so I assume it was just doing a sanity check. The idea of being able to save settings on say a USB drive does sound like a good future option.
