To avoid power supply, sleep mode and speed issues many have encountered
with external USB drives with conventional hard drives, perhaps you
should consider solid state drives. Probably many failures were due to
USB port of Squeezebox Touch unable to supply sufficient current to
hard drive (particularly during spin up) without separate power supply
for the drive (owner's fault). Though solid state drive requires far
less current than conventional hard drive, it is still safer to have
dedicated power supply for the solid state drive as you never know how
good is the power supply built for Squeezebox Touch.
