The original topic of this tread is that Mike have problems putting out 24/96 to his DQEX unit.
Your problem seems a bit odd , it migth deserve it's own tread . I never had problems outputting either flac or wav as 24/96 but the idea that wav sounds better is audiophool Fud , very little basis in reality ( search the forum about it ) . 1. you are using replaygain with flac files , the wav files gets up to 10 dB louder , go figure ;) 2.
