You say the RCA sounds best but then you say the 2 other digital
connections IMPROVE the sound, marginally. Is this what you meant to
say? If so, I'm not surprised as the internal touch DAC is pretty good.
So I wouldn't expect night and day improvement with the Maverick DAC.  
And it is questionable whether the coaxial vs optical would give you
different sounds (much less better or worse). This would depend highly
on the DAC itself.

edit: also confused, you say the SB is connected via RCA to receiver. I
assume you mean RCA to receiver AND digital to the DAC, which is then
rca to the receiver?

Also, are you sure you are equalizing the volume of the RCA outputs vs
the digital via the DAC.  It is well established that even an almost
imperceptible higher volume will cause subjects in tests to choose the
slightly louder source as sounding "better".
