I can't vouch for the touch in that scenario but I previously had a Roku Soundbridge that fed a local amp with optical and an amp in another amp via co-ax using a 10m cable (which was 1 half of a standard stereo RCA lead) not quite 40' but not far off and using potentially an inferior cable.
