My Touch is a couple of years old now and I leave it on 24/7. The display still works fine. When idle, my Touch shows the clock and weather forecast from the SDT plugin. On the positive side, the Touch has an environment light sensor that adjusts the display brightness according to the available ambient light (automatic brightness control). So at night it is quite dark and that will prolong the displays life for sure. The automatic brightness control is configurable in the Touch. You can adjust the minimum and maximum brightness settings.
