I could be wrong, but as far as I remember you can only adjust the minimum in the automatic mode. If I'm not wrong this was the reason that I've switched to the manual mode, where a fixed brightness is used. I dimmed it quite a bit accepting the disadvantage that it can be hardly seen during a sunny day.
