Just a thought - how is the Touch connected - WiFi or Ethernet? I've noticed that if the WiFi signal strength is low the data can struggle to get through, especially for higher res files. If you are using WiFi it might well be that, with a less than optimal signal strength, it can handle 16/44 but not 24/96 (which is 3 times the bits/sec as 16/44). If that is the case home-plugs (or whatever they are called) might be the solution.
