I've seen discussion on a voting feature before - without result. And
more important to me, voting has been rejected/turned off at
pypi.python.org for some reasons not long ago. So I'm not convinced that
it could do much good to t-h.o as well.

Other ideas might still be tried to indicate popularity, sure. I.e. I do
like the public software stacks you can build at ohloh.net, although
this is kind of a voting too. OTOH such a stack most probably is getting
outdated in most cases, since it entirely relies on the user to update
it. I know for myself, how such things work out, if not update is
required as for the Linux Counter [2].

The packaging is certainly a good thing, already done in some cases,
especially for a number of macros. Joining in to the effort by rjollos
and others is still appreciated.
