Howdy, there is also this: https://projects.developer.nokia.com/multiproject This plugin/setup is being used to host environments with thousands of trac projects. There are several limitations (MySQL only for example) but it does work quite well.

However the reverse is not really done yet (or maybe I have not looked hard enough). It would be better not to end up with 2 different implementations for this MultiProject feature. But well I have read a little on the history behind these 2 projects and I understand that it is not that simple. It reminds me of the the history behind Sylpheed and Sylpheed-Claws/Claws-Mail.
