Note, that in the end, you could just simply add your custom ticket field "project" and you're done. SimpleMultiProjectPlugin just gives you a more project-related timeline and roadmap page. And it helps you to filter out milestones, versions and components on ticket creation/change, for the case you assigned them to certain projects. The plugin always parses the html stream and tweaks the project stuff in. Things would likely go much easier and with more performance if the stream was already generated by Trac core in the right way (by considering the project field from the beginning). But that's up to a new Trac core version bringing the multiproject feature (see http://trac.edgewall.org/milestone/topic-multiproject).
