I am new to Trac so I haven't followed the whole story but it seems
that it is an often requested feature.
Unfortunately it is quite complicated and the skilled core developers
of Trac are very busy with other priorities.

Sadly I don't know enough about programming to help implementing this,
but I can surely participate financially (at least 500-1000 euros).

Do you think that it would be a good idea to crowd funding this ?
I don't think it would be too hard to find the money.
The most difficult would be to find the right person to do this as
he/she will have to write the correct specification (a challenge in
itself) and code it correctly (quick and dirty code in Trac won't be
welcomed I think).

Another approach would be to merge with Apache Bloodhound implementation:
https://issues.apache.org/bloodhound/wiki/Proposals/BEP-0003

By the way, is the collaboration with Apache Bloodhound working ?
I don't know if there is any exchange of code with Trac (one way or the other).

Regards,
