Hmm, I'll have to look smilutils (specially smil2raw) as currently
-x ffbin can read only one .avi and -x ffmpeg exits for some frame
decoding problem.

Yes I am too -- I used lot of those when worked with analog capture card
(iomega buz).

yes, it took some time -- but when browsing through all options
again and again it starts to go quicker and quicker...
... and I always write nice wrapper scripts for current needs
and for baseline for future...

My digicam produces interlaced output -- which looks very ugly on computer
screen (moving parts)-- I quess TV:s (even lcd-ones) do some extra work to 
clean that up but... ... and smartyuv does great work, especially as there
is no real-time requirements in my encodings that is the way to go.
